Hair & Makeup / Grooming

Your face comes first in this line of business so let’s put it out there in all of its glory!

  • Makeup should be fresh, light and natural-looking, while highlighting your best features. The “No-Makeup” makeup look works well for many.

  • Hair should be clean and styled closely to your day-to-day look. If you plan to change your hairstyle in the near future or can pull off multiple styles, then a separate headshot for each look would be beneficial.

  • Getting a good night’s rest before your session will certainly help not only with appearance but also with your overall performance, resulting in more expressive and impactful headshots!

  • Your headshot should be a replica to what you look like in-person. No one should ever have to second guess you when compared to your headshot.

We work with some great hair and makeup professionals that can assist you on looking your absolute best during your session. They understand makeup for high-definition cameras as well as specific headshot lighting so you can come in and relax and focus on what you came to do… be amazing in front of the camera! Highly recommended!

Makeup for women is supportive in achieving natural looking skin and enhancing ones beauty and features. Grooming for men leaves all the worries behind when trying to accomplish a clear and even complexion. Makeup for children can help tremendously when it comes to managing hair or doing any touch-ups in-between looks. And no matter what, a second pair of assisting hands ALWAYS comes in handy during a photo session!

Wardrobe

The clothing you wear is an integral part of the headshot. Its main objective is to accentuate and enhance your existing features without distracting from your face. Your wardrobe could also act as a supplement to the characters you want to portray, whether it be in some sort of uniform or the subtle use of minor accessories. Preparation is vital when it comes to wardrobe.

  • You provide all of your own wardrobe. The items can be old, new or borrowed. You’d be surprised of what you already have in your closet that can be pulled for your session!

  • Properly fitted wardrobe is the way to go!

  • Stay away from distracting patterns, large graphics, and logos. White tops are typically too bright and overpowering for a headshot, although they are ok if something contrasting is layered over it. In general keep wardrobe solid colors. Rule of thumb is… the simpler the better.

  • Deep jewel and some earth tones usually translate great on camera and work well against most skin tones.

  • Choose colors that compliment and/or contrast your skin tone or eye color. Try taking some selfies with your potential outfits to get a better understanding on what works well on you and your skin tone.

  • Not only does layering over tops (i.e: denim jacket over tank; tee underneath cardigan sweater; etc.) create more dynamic images, it also develops into another look to be photographed in.

  • Do your best to keep garments clean and wrinkle-free as you head into your session. Use hangers and garment bags if possible.
